The European Muslims League (EML) informs that, according to astronomical data concerning the European territory, the lunar conjunction occurred on 17 February at 12:01 GMT. However, on the evening of 17 February, the crescent was not objectively visible in Italy and in most of Europe, according to the available astronomical parameters.
Consequently, adhering to the criterion of local sighting supported by scientific data, the beginning of the month of Ramadan is expected at sunset on 18 February, with the first day of fasting on 19 February.
EML acknowledges that within the Islamic tradition there are different juristic opinions regarding the criteria for the beginning of the lunar month. We therefore invite Muslim communities to maintain mutual respect and unity, avoiding divisions and polemics.
Our commitment is to work in the coming months to foster greater coordination and shared convergence at the European level.

تُعلم الرابطة الإسلامية الأوروبية (EML) أنه وفقاً للبيانات الفلكية المتعلقة بالمنطقة الأوروبية، حدث الاقتران القمري يوم 17 فبراير الساعة 12:01 بتوقيت غرينتش. غير أن هلال شهر رمضان لم يكن مرئياً بصورة موضوعية مساء يوم 17 فبراير في إيطاليا ومعظم دول أوروبا، وفق المعايير الفلكية المتاحة.
وبناءً على اعتماد معيار الرؤية المحلية المدعومة بالبيانات العلمية، يُتوقع أن يكون بدء شهر رمضان عند غروب شمس يوم 18 فبراير، على أن يكون أول أيام الصيام يوم 19 فبراير.
وتقر الرابطة بوجود آراء فقهية متعددة في التراث الإسلامي بشأن معايير ثبوت دخول الشهر القمري، وتدعو الجاليات المسلمة إلى الحفاظ على الاحترام المتبادل وروح الوحدة وتجنب الخلافات والجدل.
وتؤكد الرابطة التزامها بالعمل خلال الأشهر القادمة لتعزيز التنسيق وتحقيق قدر أكبر من التقارب على المستوى الأوروبي.

La European Muslims League (EML) informa che, secondo i dati astronomici relativi al territorio europeo, la congiunzione lunare è avvenuta il 17 febbraio alle ore 12:01 GMT. Tuttavia, nella serata del 17 febbraio il crescente non risultava oggettivamente visibile in Italia e in gran parte d’Europa, come indicato dai parametri astronomici disponibili.
Di conseguenza, attenendosi al criterio della visione locale supportata da dati scientifici, l’inizio del mese di Ramadan è previsto al tramonto del 18 febbraio, con primo giorno di digiuno il 19 febbraio.
La EML riconosce che, nella tradizione islamica, esistono opinioni giuridiche differenti riguardo ai criteri di inizio del mese lunare. Invitiamo pertanto le comunità musulmane a mantenere rispetto reciproco e spirito di unità, evitando divisioni e polemiche.
Il nostro impegno è quello di lavorare nei prossimi mesi per favorire un maggiore coordinamento e una convergenza condivisa a livello europeo.
