FRANCE: VIOLENCE, RACISM AND THE DUTY TO PROTECT EVERY COMMUNITY

English, French, Italian.

European Muslims League – EML Islamophobia Watch | 24 October 2026

The European Muslims League (EML), headquartered in Genoa, Italy, expresses its profound concern following the deadly armed attack reported on 23 October 2026 in the French municipalities of Trappes and La Verrière, near Paris.

According to media reports, one person was killed and five others were injured, including a twelve-year-old girl.

French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the attack as an act of racist terrorism, while local authorities raised concerns about a possible Islamophobic motive. The precise motivations remain subject to investigation and must not be prejudged.

The European Muslims League strongly condemns all acts of violence, racism, religious hatred and discrimination, regardless of the identity or beliefs of the victims.

Statement by Alfredo Maiolese, President of the European Muslims League (EML)

"Hatred has no religion, and violence has no justification. If the Islamophobic motive is confirmed, this attack must serve as a serious warning to the whole of Europe. We cannot wait for another tragedy before defending religious freedom and human dignity. Protecting Muslims, Christians, Jews and every other community means protecting Europe itself."

The EML calls upon the competent French authorities to conduct a thorough, independent and transparent investigation, ensuring that any possible racist or religious motivation is carefully examined.

At the same time, the League urges European institutions, governments and civil society to strengthen efforts against Islamophobia, antisemitism, racism and all forms of religious intolerance.

No European citizen should live in fear because of their faith, cultural background or identity.

Peaceful coexistence cannot be guaranteed by declarations alone. It requires education, institutional responsibility, mutual respect and concrete action against hatred.

The European Muslims League expresses its solidarity with the victims and their families and reiterates its commitment to dialogue, religious freedom and human dignity.

FRANCIA: VIOLENZA, RAZZISMO E DOVERE DI PROTEGGERE OGNI COMUNITÀ

European Muslims League – Osservatorio sull'islamofobia | 24 ottobre 2026

FRANCE: ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND DISINFORMATION MUST NOT FUEL ISLAMOPHOBIA

English, French, Italian.

European Muslims League – EML Islamophobia Watch
22 October 2026

ENGLISH
The European Muslims League (EML) expresses its concern over the circulation of artificial intelligence-generated images and misleading narratives following recent demonstrations and unrest in France.

According to fact-checking investigations published by TF1 and Full Fact, images allegedly depicting an elderly couple being assaulted and robbed during the disturbances were artificially generated. French judicial authorities reportedly had no information confirming the alleged incident.

Such manipulated images risk fuelling inflammatory narratives, including prejudice against migrants and Muslim communities.

The EML firmly condemns all acts of violence, regardless of their perpetrators, while rejecting attempts to associate entire religious or ethnic communities with incidents for which collective responsibility has not been established.

Alfredo Maiolese, President of the European Muslims League, stated:

"Artificial intelligence must serve humanity, not become an instrument for manufacturing hatred. No religion, community or people should be condemned through fabricated images and unverified accusations.

But there is a question that we cannot ignore: who has an interest in distorting the truth and fuelling mistrust between communities?

We are not accusing anyone, nor are we suggesting conclusions without evidence. We are simply asking that the origins, purposes and dissemination of deliberately misleading content be investigated with transparency and independence. Truth must never become a casualty of manipulation."

The European Muslims League calls upon public authorities, media organisations and digital platforms to strengthen fact-checking, promote responsible communication and protect freedom of religion.

Defending truth is an essential condition for defending peace, human dignity and peaceful coexistence.

THE SEVEN GATES TO A GOOD LIFE

A Spiritual Reflection by Prof. Dr. Mustafa Cerić

European Muslims League (EML) – Introduction

The European Muslims League is pleased to share a profound spiritual reflection by Prof. Dr. Mustafa Cerić, former Grand Mufti of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a distinguished Islamic scholar and an internationally respected voice for interreligious dialogue, human dignity and peace.

Entitled “The Seven Gates to a Good Life”, this reflection offers 35 guiding principles organised around seven essential dimensions of human existence: happiness, respect, personal growth, family harmony, daily discipline, goodness towards others and closeness to Allah Almighty.

At a time when humanity faces increasing divisions, uncertainty and spiritual challenges, these teachings remind us that peace begins within the individual and becomes visible through kindness, responsibility, compassion and respect for others.

The European Muslims League welcomes this contribution as a meaningful invitation to rediscover the moral and spiritual values that unite humanity.

President – European Muslims League (EML)

THE SEVEN GATES TO A GOOD LIFE

Mustafa Cerić

Daily Reflection: A Moral Guide to Serenity of the Soul, Nobility of the Heart, and Closeness to Allah, the Most Merciful

Every morning, a person is given a new opportunity to improve something within themselves and do something good for those around them. Sometimes, we let that opportunity pass us by while waiting for major events, more favourable circumstances, or people who will understand us. Yet life most often changes through what is already within our reach: a smile we can offer, a word we can soften, a responsibility we can fulfil, and a supplication we can make.

Before us are seven groups of simple reminders, each containing five guiding principles. Their value does not lie merely in remembering beautiful words. It begins when those words become part of our conduct.

For spiritual maturity is reflected in how we live with others, endure life’s trials, and give thanks to Allah Almighty for what has been entrusted to us.

Five Things That Nourish Our Happiness

A smile, gratitude, rest, good company, and helping others.

A smile is a small gift through which we tell another person: your presence is not a burden to me. In a world of worried faces and hasty judgements, a gentle smile can open the door to trust. Yet someone who is grieving need not conceal their pain to deserve our love. The most beautiful smile emerges where the soul feels safe enough to be honest.

Gratitude teaches us to notice what we have grown accustomed to receiving and have consequently stopped seeing: water, bread, a home, a friendly voice, and the opportunity to correct a mistake. A grateful person can aspire to something better while remaining mindful of the good they already possess.

Rest, too, is part of our responsibility. The body has its limits, and an exhausted soul finds it harder to preserve gentleness. Allowing ourselves a moment of respite means preserving the strength needed to fulfil the trust placed in our care.

We recognise good company by the fact that, after spending time with such people, we feel more inclined towards truth and goodness. They know how to comfort us, but also how to offer a warning without humiliating us. Helping others, meanwhile, gives life a broader meaning: as we lighten another person’s burden, we discover that our own lives, too, can become a source of hope for someone else.

Five Things on Which Respect Is Built

Truthfulness, trustworthiness, good manners, loyalty, and respect.

Truthfulness means being willing to forgo an advantage we might gain through a lie. It is especially valuable when a person acknowledges their own mistake. At that moment, truth ceases to be a demand we place on others and becomes the measure of our own character.

Amanah means that whatever has been entrusted to us is safe in our hands: another person’s words, property, honour, work, or a shared responsibility. A person who honours this trust fulfils their duties conscientiously, even when no one is watching.

Good manners give truth a dignified expression. It is possible to be firm without being harsh and to disagree without insulting others. Loyalty, in turn, preserves a grateful memory: it does not forget a benefactor once they are no longer needed, nor abandon a friend when difficult times arrive.

Respect is most clearly demonstrated in how we treat those from whom we expect no benefit. The way we speak to a worker, a person living in poverty, an older person, or someone whose views differ from our own reveals how deeply we understand human dignity.

Five Things That Make Us Better

Learning, work, patience, change, and progress.

Learning begins with a humble admission: there is still much I do not know. Such an admission opens the door to wisdom and protects us from the kind of self-confidence that no longer listens.

Work gives knowledge its fruits. However beautiful our intentions may be, they require hands to bring them to life, time devoted to their fulfilment, and a willingness to accept responsibility for the consequences of our actions.

Sabr teaches us to endure the journey between effort and its rewards. It encompasses perseverance, self-control, and sound judgement. When confronted with injustice, sabr helps us seek a way forward without losing our moral direction.

Change requires the courage to reconsider a habit, a judgement, or an action. Admitting that we were wrong can mark the beginning of healing a relationship. Progress, in turn, means becoming more capable, more just, and more considerate towards those affected by our decisions.

At the end of the day, it is worth asking ourselves: Have I learned something today, and have I treated someone better because of it?

Five Things That Bring Happiness into the Home

Love, respect, cooperation, communication, and tolerance accompanied by a willingness to forgive.

A home acquires warmth through everyday actions. Love can be heard in the question, “How are you?”—when we have the patience to listen to the answer. It can be seen in our attentiveness to another person’s exhaustion and in the time we give them.

Respect preserves the dignity of everyone in the household, especially in moments of disagreement. Closeness gives us the opportunity to know another person’s weaknesses; morality obliges us not to use those weaknesses as weapons.

Cooperation means sharing responsibilities fairly. A household becomes more peaceful when its members notice the work that needs to be done and the burden that someone has been carrying alone for too long.

Communication prevents silence from turning into estrangement. We must speak clearly, but also listen without preparing our next accusation. Forgiveness opens the way to reconciliation when accompanied by an acknowledgement of the hurt caused and a willingness to change. Where hurtful behaviour is repeated, clear boundaries are also necessary to protect safety and dignity.

Let our homes be places where no one is afraid to admit weakness or ask for help.

Five Things That Bring Order to Our Day

Rising early, performing the Fajr prayer, organising our time, working with enthusiasm, and going to bed early.

The morning carries a special stillness. Those who can greet it well-rested have an opportunity to begin the day with a clear mind, before numerous obligations demand their attention.

The Fajr prayer gives this beginning a spiritual direction. Standing before Allah, we are reminded that our time has value and that our actions carry responsibility.

Organising our time means making room for worship, work, family, and rest. Enthusiasm for work comes more readily when we know what matters to us and have a realistic task before us. Going to bed early, whenever life’s circumstances and work commitments allow, helps us preserve the strength we need for the following day.

Let us practise these habits wisely, taking into account each person’s health, age, and responsibilities. Their purpose is to help us lead a more orderly and meaningful life.

Five Things Through Which Goodness Becomes Visible

Helping people, respecting older people, showing gentleness towards children, forgiving others, and speaking kind words.

Goodness becomes real when we make someone’s life easier. Help is most noble when it preserves the dignity of the person receiving it and does not make them feel perpetually indebted to us.

We show respect to older people by being patient with their speech, their slower pace, and their need to be heard. Towards children, we show a gentleness that teaches them to trust. A child needs guidance and boundaries, but also the assurance that a mistake will not become a reason for humiliation.

Forgiveness can free the heart from the prolonged burden of bitterness. It is a deeply personal journey and should never be imposed upon the person who has been hurt. Justice, protection, and accountability retain their indispensable place.

Kind words belong to every one of these acts. Sometimes they take the form of encouragement, sometimes an apology, and sometimes a quiet sentence: “I am here. I am listening.”

Five Things That Bring Us Closer to Allah, the Most Merciful

Salah, recitation of the Qur’an, dhikr, the pursuit of knowledge, and sadaqah.

Salah, the ritual prayer, regularly brings us back to an awareness of Allah and invites us to reflect on our lives. We should nurture its influence even after the concluding salutation of prayer, allowing it to be reflected in our honesty, gentleness, and sense of responsibility.

Reciting the Qur’an calls for the attention of the tongue, the mind, and the heart. As we read, let us ask ourselves what change the words we have read require of us and how we can bring that change into our relationships.

Dhikr, the remembrance of Allah, nurtures an awareness of His presence amid our daily activities. The pursuit of knowledge deepens our understanding and teaches us humility in the face of what we have yet to learn. Sadaqah, voluntary charity, gives this awareness a tangible expression: from what has been bestowed upon us, we set aside something to make life easier for another person.

Thus, worship and morality meet in a single life: in a person who turns to Allah and treats His creation with care.

We do not have to change everything today. We can begin with one sincere apology, one responsibility fulfilled, one attentive conversation, and one good deed that no one will see.

O Allah, the Most Merciful, grant us grateful hearts, truthful tongues, and trustworthy hands. Bring love into our homes, order into our days, and gentleness into our relationships. Teach us knowledge that is beneficial, and help us put it into practice. Accept our small good deeds and make us a source of relief for those we encounter.

TRE FEDI, UN’UNICA UMANITÀ: AD ALBENGA IL DIALOGO INTERRELIGIOSO CON LA EUROPEAN MUSLIMS LEAGUE

Amb Alfredo Maiolese con il Sindaco di Albenga dr. Riccardo Tomatis.

Albenga, 18 ottobre 2026

THREE FAITHS, ONE HUMANITY: INTERRELIGIOUS DIALOGUE IN ALBENGA WITH THE EUROPEAN MUSLIMS LEAGUE

Albenga, Italy – 18 October 2026

An important interreligious dialogue meeting took place at the Auditorium San Carlo in Albenga, Italy, under the title “Three Faiths, One Humanity – Dialogue, Respect, Peace”, organised by the Circolo Culturale Gufo Ensi of Valerio Favi.

The event brought together three representatives of the major monotheistic religions: Rabbi Giuseppe Momigliano, Chief Rabbi of the Jewish Community of Genoa; Father Giuseppe Noberasco, lecturer in Theology; and Ambassador Alfredo Maiolese, President of the European Muslims League (EML), representing Islam.

The discussion was moderated by philosopher Professor Diego Fusaro, who opened the meeting with a particularly thought-provoking reflection.

Diego Fusaro: not a war between religions, but a war against religions

One of the most significant aspects of the conference emerged from Professor Diego Fusaro's introduction, in which he challenged the conventional interpretation of contemporary conflicts as clashes between religious faiths.

According to the philosophical perspective he presented, humanity is not simply witnessing a war between religions, but rather a deeper war against religions themselves.

In an era increasingly characterised by nihilism, new forms of obscurantism and technological dominance, there is a risk of creating a society that progressively deprives human beings of their spiritual dimension, their faith and their search for a higher meaning in existence.

This reflection gave the meeting an even deeper significance: the three religions, while preserving their theological differences, can recognise a shared responsibility to defend the spiritual dimension of human existence.

The message of Islam: knowing one another, not fighting one another

During his contribution, Ambassador Alfredo Maiolese emphasised the importance of religious and cultural diversity, recalling a significant verse from the Holy Quran:

“O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another.”

(Holy Quran, 49:13)

This Quranic teaching reminds humanity that diversity among peoples should not become a source of division, but an opportunity for mutual understanding.

The European Muslims League has consistently maintained that interreligious dialogue should not erase religious identities, but rather strengthen mutual respect while preserving them.

Peace does not require everyone to share the same theological beliefs. It requires each individual to recognise the dignity, freedom and rights of others.

Three faiths, one shared responsibility

The meeting in Albenga represented an important example of how Jews, Christians and Muslims can establish relationships based on respect and constructive dialogue.

At a time marked by wars, international tensions and growing divisions, interreligious dialogue carries a significance that extends far beyond cultural exchange.

It becomes a meaningful contribution to building peace and protecting human dignity.

The European Muslims League expresses its sincere appreciation to the Circolo Culturale Gufo Ensi, the organisers, the speakers and Professor Diego Fusaro for contributing to an encounter of profound human and spiritual value.

Three faiths, one humanity: religious differences should not divide human beings, but inspire them to know one another, respect one another and live together in peace.

Identity Is in the Mind, Not on the Head – Grand Mufti Emeritus Mustafa Cerić on Religious Freedom in Azerbaijan

The European Muslims League shares the following statement by Professor Dr. Mustafa Cerić, Grand Mufti Emeritus of Bosnia, as a valuable contribution to the international dialogue on religious freedom and the right to education.

The EML expresses its respect for the Republic of Azerbaijan, its people and its institutions, and believes that matters concerning religious expression and education should be addressed through constructive dialogue, mutual understanding and respect for human dignity.

The European Muslims League remains committed to promoting religious freedom, peaceful coexistence and dialogue among peoples, cultures and institutions.

IDENTITY IS IN THE MIND, NOT ON THE HEAD!

A protest against the humiliation of students and teachers wearing the hijab in Azerbaijan

With profound indignation and the strongest moral condemnation, I raise my voice against denying students and teachers in Azerbaijan access to schools because they wear the hijab. Reports of girls being left outside school gates and teachers facing demands to remove their headscarves offend human dignity and the very purpose of education.

No authority has the moral right to confront a child with this humiliating choice: abandon the expression of your religious identity or abandon your classroom!

What kind of concern for education closes school doors to a girl? What kind of defence of freedom forces a woman to remove what she has freely chosen to wear? What kind of confidence in knowledge judges a student’s ability and a teacher’s dignity by the scarf upon her head?

To the authorities of Azerbaijan, I say: identity is in the mind, not on the head!

It lives in consciousness, conscience, memory and conviction. The hijab may be its visible expression, but identity does not disappear when that expression is removed. You can prescribe a uniform; you cannot prescribe a conscience. You can stop a girl at the school gate; you cannot thereby prove that you are right. You prove only that you possess power and are using it against someone less able to protect herself from you.

In this, I see one of the worst forms of political cowardice: displaying strength before a child who wishes to learn.

The secular character of the state should guarantee a shared space in which no one must conceal their faith to be an equal citizen. When secularism becomes a demand that believers make themselves invisible, it loses its justification in freedom and becomes an instrument of coercion.

A school can be secular while a girl attending it is Muslim. The curriculum can be shared while the consciences of its students differ. A state demonstrates its maturity precisely through its ability to accept this fact.

Particularly disgraceful is the mentality of subservience that seeks to prove its supposed progressiveness by suppressing Islam and humiliating Muslim women. I call it subservient because it seeks to turn a free human being into an obedient subject, permitted an education only on condition that she bends her conscience to the will of those in power.

Progress is measured by knowledge, justice, freedom and the dignity of citizens. A state that boasts of its modernity while leaving girls outside closed school doors exposes the depth of its own moral defeat.

It is shameful to tell a girl who has come seeking knowledge that she is unwelcome because of her hijab. It is even more shameful to present such humiliation as an educational measure. And most shameful of all is to expect the humiliated girl to accept that this is being done for her own good.

I defend a woman’s right to wear the hijab just as firmly as I defend her right not to wear it. Neither family, society nor the state may claim ownership of her conscience. Freedom entails choice, and choice ceases to be free when it is extracted through the threat of losing an education or a livelihood.

My condemnation is directed at the decision and conduct of the authorities. To the brotherly people of Azerbaijan, I extend my respect and solidarity, especially to the students, teachers and all those peacefully defending the right to education and freedom of belief.

I call upon the authorities of Azerbaijan to immediately remove restrictions that deny students and teachers access to schools because of the hijab; to enable their unhindered return to learning and teaching; and to give clear guarantees that no one will face reprisals for peacefully advocating these rights.

I also call upon religious communities, educational institutions and human rights organisations to speak out clearly and consistently. The dignity of a Muslim woman deserves the same protection as the dignity of every other woman. A girl’s right to education must not depend on whether those in power approve of her appearance.

As a Bosnian Muslim and someone who knows how painful it is when a person’s identity becomes a reason for exclusion, I cannot accept silence in the face of such humiliation.

Open the school doors. Give the girls back their desks, the teachers their classrooms, and education its dignity.

For the shame belongs to an authority that, confronted with a child’s headscarf, forgets its own responsibility.

United Kingdom: Rising Anti-Muslim Hate Crimes and Attacks on Mosques Raise Concern – European Muslims League Calls for Greater Protection

16 October 2026

The European Muslims League (EML) has expressed serious concern over recently published figures revealing an increase in religious hate crimes targeting Muslims and incidents affecting mosques and Muslim communities across the United Kingdom.

According to a report published on 8 October 2026 by the British Muslim Trust, 78 attacks and hostile incidents involving mosques, associated premises and people connected to Muslim places of worship were documented over a twelve-month period. The incidents ranged from intimidation and vandalism to more serious forms of violence.

Official figures released by the UK Home Office on the same date show that religious hate crimes targeting Muslims in England and Wales increased by 15%, rising from 4,479 to 5,132 recorded offences in the year ending March 2026.

These findings highlight growing concerns about religious hostility and the safety of Muslim communities, particularly in places intended for prayer, reflection and community life.

"These figures deserve serious attention from British and European institutions. No one should have to fear aggression, threats or intimidation when attending a place of worship. Protecting mosques, just as we protect churches, synagogues and all other places of worship, must be a shared responsibility. Religious freedom and public safety must be guaranteed to everyone, without distinction," said Alfredo Maiolese, President of the European Muslims League.

The EML emphasises that combating anti-Muslim hatred must go hand in hand with opposing all forms of religious extremism, discrimination and violence.

Through its EML Islamophobia Watch – European Monitoring & Response Unit, the organisation continues to monitor and document verified incidents of discrimination, hostility and misinformation affecting Muslim communities in Europe.

The European Muslims League calls for stronger cooperation between public authorities, religious organisations and civil society to ensure that places of worship remain safe environments for everyone.

THE MALAYSIAN AMBASSADOR IN GENOA: DIPLOMACY, HUMILITY AND DIALOGUE IN THE SERVICE OF PEACE

The European Muslims League pays tribute to H.E. Dato’ Shahabudeen bin Adam Shah, Ambassador of Malaysia to Italy, highlighting his diplomatic experience, human qualities and commitment to international friendship and dialogue.

GENOA, ITALY – 12 October 2026

Diplomacy is not measured solely through official meetings and institutional protocols, but also through the ability to listen, engage in dialogue and bring people closer together.

This is one of the qualities that the European Muslims League (EML) wishes to highlight in paying tribute to H.E. Dato’ Shahabudeen bin Adam Shah, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Italian Republic, who participated in the third edition of “Un Calcio alla Guerra – Kick War Away”, held in Genoa on 10 October 2026.

An experienced diplomat, the Ambassador represents Malaysia, a country that holds a significant position within the Muslim world and international relations, promoting dialogue among cultures, religions and civilisations.

His sensitivity towards intercultural dialogue, his understanding of international diplomatic relations and his attention to relations with Arab and Muslim-majority countries are qualities particularly appreciated by the European Muslims League.

Beyond his diplomatic experience, however, what stands out is his simplicity, approachability and humility, qualities that give even greater meaning to his institutional role.

During the Genoa event, the Ambassador took part in the Peace March alongside mayors, representatives of Italian institutions, religious communities and citizens, personally sharing the spirit and values of the initiative.

Later, during the official ceremony at the Rina and Gilberto Govi Theatre, he received, on behalf of H.E. Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, the Special International Peace Award 2026, presented in recognition of the Prime Minister's commitment to promoting peace, interfaith dialogue and peaceful coexistence.

H.E. Ambassador Alfredo Maiolese, President of the European Muslims League, Secretary-General and Ambassador at Large of the World Organization of States – International Parliament for Safety and Peace (WOS-IPSP), expressed his particular appreciation for the Ambassador's participation:

“I had the pleasure of meeting a diplomatic representative of great experience, but above all, a person who combines authority with humility. His participation in our event represents a gesture of friendship and genuine commitment to the values of peace. These are qualities that I consider essential in contemporary diplomacy.”

The European Muslims League regards the Malaysian Ambassador's presence in Genoa as an important opportunity to strengthen ties of friendship and cooperation, firmly believing that dialogue between Europe, the Arab world and Muslim-majority countries is an essential instrument for mutual understanding.

True diplomacy is not only about representing a State, but also about building bridges of trust between peoples.

In this spirit, the European Muslims League expresses its sincere gratitude to H.E. Dato’ Shahabudeen bin Adam Shah, extending its warmest wishes for the continued success of his diplomatic mission.

LITHUANIA: GROWING CONCERN OVER ANTI-MUSLIM INCIDENTS

EML Islamophobia Watch – European Monitoring & Response Unit

The European Muslims League (EML) expresses its concern over recent incidents in Lithuania targeting the Muslim community and its religious symbols.

In Vilnius, a copy of the Quran was publicly burned, an incident that prompted an investigation. In Kaunas, during a moment of prayer by the Muslim community, a protest was accompanied by provocative acts, including the display of a pig's head. The competent authorities have also intervened in relation to this incident.

The situation has gained national attention. The Lithuanian State Security Department (VSD) has reported an increase in incitement to hatred against Muslims in the public sphere and has drawn attention to the risk that such a climate could contribute to acts of violence against individuals or places associated with the Muslim community.

Particularly significant was the position taken by the President of the Republic of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausėda, who, in light of several incidents occurring within a relatively short period, stressed the need to carefully investigate what happened and whether such actions may have been organized.

The European Muslims League welcomes the response of the Lithuanian institutions and their commitment to protecting religious freedom and peaceful coexistence among different communities.

The President of the European Muslims League, Alfredo Maiolese, stated:

"When institutions act to defend religious freedom, they are not protecting only one community, but the fundamental values of society as a whole. We appreciate the words of President Gitanas Nausėda: in the face of hatred, we do not need new divisions, but responsibility, dialogue and respect for the dignity of every person."

The European Muslims League stresses that combating Islamophobia must not be confused with limiting democratic debate. Issues relating to immigration, integration and security can and should be discussed freely, but without turning religion or membership of a community into a reason for intimidation, humiliation or hatred.

Through EML Islamophobia Watch – European Monitoring & Response Unit, the European Muslims League will continue to monitor incidents of Islamophobia across Europe, promote dialogue with institutions and support initiatives aimed at protecting religious freedom, human dignity and peaceful coexistence.

World Organization of States – International Parliament for Safety and Peace (WOS-IPSP), organizzazione intergovernativa internazionale.

PAGANINI BETWEEN MUSIC, THEATRE AND MEMORY: AT TEATRO GOVI, CULTURE MEETS DIALOGUE AND PEACE

English

GENOA – Culture is not simply entertainment. It is memory, identity, encounter and the ability to bring together people, generations and different perspectives.

It is from this perspective that the European Muslims League (EML) pays particular attention to cultural institutions capable of keeping the social fabric of cities alive and creating opportunities for participation and mutual understanding.

Among these is the Rina and Gilberto Govi Theatre in Genoa, which on 10 October 2026 will host the ceremony of the third edition of “Un Calcio alla Guerra – Kick War Away”, an initiative promoted by the European Muslims League under the High Patronage of the World Organization of States – International Parliament for Safety and Peace (WOS-IPSP), an international intergovernmental organization.

The hospitality of Teatro Govi also provides an opportunity to highlight its cultural commitment and the artistic productions that tell the story of Genoa and some of its most universally renowned figures.

Among them is “Quella musica… quella musica – Paganini Opera Rock”, written and directed by Ivaldo Castellani, with live music by LatteMiele 2.0, offering an original interpretation of the life and personality of Niccolò Paganini.

Theatre, music, dance and images come together to portray not only the great violinist known throughout the world, but also the man, his inner struggles, his family relationships and his profound connection with the city of Genoa, where he was born.

The narrative takes inspiration from an episode in Paganini’s childhood. Seriously ill with measles, he was believed to be dead and preparations were made for his funeral vigil, until an almost imperceptible movement revealed that he was still alive. The production transforms this episode into the starting point of a symbolic search: the pursuit of a mysterious music that only Paganini could supposedly hear and whose rediscovery becomes, symbolically, the obsession of his life.

The performance moves through different moments in the musician’s life, from the popular Genoa of his time to his family and personal experiences, and finally to the difficult and troubled final stages of his existence.

It is precisely this ability to tell the story and preserve the memory of a city through art that makes a theatre something more than a venue for performances. A theatre can become a place of education, encounter, dialogue and community building.

This vision also reflects the international approach promoted by WOS-IPSP: peace is not limited to institutional relations between States, but can also be supported through culture, sport, interreligious and intercultural dialogue, and the active involvement of civil society.

“Peace is not built only at major international meetings. It is also built in places where people meet, listen to a story, share music and learn about each other’s culture. For this reason, we consider Teatro Govi not simply the venue that will host us on 10 October, but a place of culture and community,” said Alfredo Maiolese, President of the European Muslims League.

The European Muslims League therefore expresses its appreciation to the Rina and Gilberto Govi Theatre and to all those whose artistic, organizational and cultural commitment helps preserve and promote an important part of Genoa’s identity.

On 10 October, the same theatre will welcome institutions, religious communities, associations, citizens and international guests for the third edition of “Un Calcio alla Guerra – Kick War Away”: an occasion in which culture, sport, dialogue and participation will once again become instruments for promoting peace.
