BRIDGETOWN, BARBADOS

Our Ambassador of Peace Suleiman Bulbulia had partecipated in Barbados to an important  Abrahamic Faiths Conference. Organized by the Codrington College and the Ministry of Religious Affairs the week started off with a peace walk from the masjid in Bridgetown where the Minister and close to 300 young Barbadians assembled. They were informed about the history of Islam and Muslims in Barbados and the role of the masjid and its characteristics. Everyone then walked to the Synagogue then to the Cathedral and then to Queens Park for a rally. A great day of Peace and armony.

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND

Eml representative Dr. Arben Ramkaj has taken part as a delegate at  the 41st session of the opening of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
The EML supports peace and Human rights and is very glad that UN confirms this role worldwide. In the last years EML is steadily engaged in defending minorities by means of diplomatic ways.

SKOPJE, MACEDONIA

Our member in Albania Dr. Arben Ramkaj was Invited to an International Workshop on "Strategic Communications and Messaging" hold in Macedonia.

The workshop is organized by Hedayah Countering Violent Extremism and The Hague Center for Strategic Studies. The invited are well acquainted with these issues from Southeast European countries and experts from various organizations.

The purpose of this conference was the gathering of experts and civil society actors to discuss the challenges and security of each country about CVE.

CHRISTCHURCH, NEW ZELAND

This morning we in Europe awoke to the horrific news that 49 Muslim worshippers had been killed and at least 20 more wounded in shootings at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand.

The European Muslim League extends its heartfelt sympathies and prayers to the 44,000-strong Muslim community living there as they struggle to come to terms with this shooting, the worst in the history of their country.

A man in his late twenties has already been charged with murder and will appear in court on Saturday morning in what police are treating as an extremist, right-wing terror attack.

We sincerely hope this horrific event does not deter Muslims and people of other faiths from going to their places of worship today or any other day. Everyone, no matter who they are or how they pray should be allowed to do it freely and without fear.

However, we would also add, that this crime is what happens when hate spirals out of control. EML would urge politicians of all stripes to be careful in their choice of language and rhetoric when speaking about or referring to minority groups here in Europe and elsewhere.

In the meantime we would urge people of faith and no faith to come together in a spirit of unity in memory of those who died as they worshipped in the two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand. Peace, understanding and tolerance is needed today more than ever.

Remembering the Great War one hundred years on ... and the contribution made by Muslims
This Sunday it will be 100 years since the end of the Great War which is still impacting on all of our lives today, regardless of our nationalities, faith and beliefs.
Remembrance Day has a special significance for it marks 100 years since the signing of the Armistice on November 11 1918 at 11am, signalling the end of World War One.
As more than 60 world leaders prepare to gather in Paris to mark the centenary anniversary it is right we at the European Muslim League should also remember and honour those who paid the ultimate sacrifice as allies in Europe especially on the Western Front.
The European Muslim League joins in this period of reflection to honour all of those who sacrificed their lives regardless of their faith, but we would also like to use this solemn occasion to highlight the contribution made by Muslims as well. Their sacrifice is often overlooked but the truth is thousands of Muslims fought and died for the history and security of Europe.
While the far-right narrative tends to airbrush these facts from history the EML feels it is timely to remember the global contribution made by Muslim soldiers during World War One when more than four million Muslims either fought or served from around the world. 

Sadly the full diversity of everyone who took part in the First World War tends to be overlooked and now that the anniversary is upon us we should use this as a timely reminder of the contribution made by Muslims many of whom paid the ultimate price for the freedoms we in Europe enjoy today.

The international Muslim community also needs to use this weekend as a time to reflect and recognise the enormous contribution made by Muslims who fought in a war not of their making.

We European Muslims and the Muslims worldwide condemn any sort of terrorist attack made in the name of a religion. The Christians and the Muslims are not responsible for the violence but only the victims.
It is a big  mistake generates hate and respond to the criminals with other atrocities.

News of last night's terror attack in London reached me and everyone else in the European Muslim League with equal measure of disbelief and outrage.

We are in the holy month of Ramadan, a time for peace and reflection, prayer and fasting. Those who brought this carnage to London show they have no respect for their fellow human beings nor the great faith of Islam.

The European Muslim League extends its  condolences to those whose loved ones never came home last night and our thoughts and  prayers are with the survivors and those involved in the emergency services, the rapid response of the latter brought a quick end to the horrific violence in the heart of London.

Dear Mayor,

I want to convey the great sadness and horror we felt as news began to emerge late last night about the terror attack on the Manchester Arena in your great city.The appalling news, including a death toll of 22 and around 60 injured, has yet to yield the identity of the person(s) responsible but please know this, we are united in grief and would like to send a message if solidarity towards you and your people.Whoever committed this act can only have been fuelled by a hatred which has no place in our Faith and this act will have certainly appalled Muslims across Europe and the wider world.Parts of Europe are still trying to come to terms with terror attacks in recent years but we are confident the enduring spirit of human nature will triumph over the sort of hate and fear these acts of terror are designed to spread.This is just a short message of solidarity from the European Muslim League and if there is anything you feel we can do or say to alleviate the pain of the people of Manchester please do not hesitate to contact us at EML. CAIRO EGYPT

The focus of the world has now moved to Egypt after 43 people were killed and at least another 100 were injured in bomb attacks on two Coptic churches that also included the seat of the Coptic Pope.

This is the latest assault on a religious minority which has become increasingly targeted by Daesh, also known as the so-called Islamic State.

By coincidence European Muslim League President Alfredo Maiolese was in Cairo for an international conference when the attacks in Fanta and Alexandria occurred.

EML President Maiolese, who is a strong leader on matters of interfaith, expressed his horror and sadness at the attacks which he noted happened a week before the Coptic Easter and the scheduled visit of Pope Francis to Egypt later this month.

"It seems that we can not pass a day without some atrocity, somewhere in the world, ripping the heart out of a community. That these particular attacks on the Christian communities in Egypt happened today, Palm Sunday, when millions around the globe are marking this poignant event in their calendar defies belief.

"We at EML are appalled by the cowardly nature of these two attacks on people while in the act of worship. I want our Christian brothers and sisters, where ever they are in the world today, to know that we are standing in solidarity with them and that they are in our thoughts and prayers.

"The vile acts of these cowards will not fragment our friendships or beliefs but will serve to make us stronger together and unite us in our different faiths rather than divide us," he said.

President Maiolese was speaking from Intercontinental Hotel in Cairo where he is attending a conference on International Relations.

The first bombing, in Tanta, a Nile Delta city about 100 km (60 miles) north of Cairo, tore through the inside of St. George Church during its Palm Sunday service, killing at least 27 people and injuring at least 78, according to the Ministry of Health.

 

The second, carried out a few hours later by a suicide bomber in Alexandria, hit Saint Mark's Cathedral, the historic seat of the Coptic Pope, killing 16 people, including three police officers, and injuring 41, added the ministry.

Coptic Pope Tawadros, who had attended mass at Saint Mark's Cathedral, was still in the building at the time of the explosion but was not harmed. he said shortly afterwards: "These acts will not harm the unity and cohesion of the people."
